WORLD SIGHT DAY 2021
Every second Thursday of October is designated as Word Sight Day by World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners. This year’s theme is: Love Your Eyes.
The theme emphasizes the importance of our respective eye health and the need for regular eye check up to be included in routine medical examination.
It’s a day we remind the general public that 84% of blindness in Nigeria is avoidable and that adopting healthy lifestyle as well as good health-seeking behaviour are fundamental in blindness prevention drive.
It’s also a day we draw the attention of the country’s leadership that universal health coverage is complete only when eye care forms an integral part of it and that integration of primary eye care into the primary health care is the way to go if we want to improve access to comprehensive eye care services.
