EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES OF THE SCHOOL
(b) Advanced Diploma in Community Ophthalmic (ADCON)
Duration – 9months
(c) Refresher Course for Practicing Ophthalmic Nurses in the Federation – Duration – 4 weeks
(d) Primary Eye Care (PEC) – Duration : 4 weeks
(e) Basic Nursing on training – Duration : 4 weeks
(f) School of Health Technology Training – Duration: 4weeks
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
The Ophthalmic Nursing programme shall be for 12months of two semesters. from November of a particular year to the next November.
The programme involves both theoretical and practical exposure of students.

The programme is located at the School of Post Basic Ophthalmic Nursing, National Eye Centre, Kaduna, P.M.B. 2267 Kaduna.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The requirements for admission into the School :
(1)A minimum of five credit passes in SSCE or GCE in the following subjects at not more than two (2) sittings: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Combination of results from different examination bodies such as WASC and NECO is acceptable.
(2) Candidate must be a registered Nurse/Midwife with a minimum of one year post registration/working experience.
(3) Holder of current practicing license.
3 CLINICAL EXPERIENCE AREAS: Hospital’s Primary Care Clinic (PCC), Wards, Consulting Clinics, Theatre and Optical Workshop. Community experience at Satellite Clinics at Government Health Centre Kawo, Malali, Kurmin Gwari, Magajin Gari, (within Kaduna Metropolis),etc. It also includes outreaches in some communities within and outside Kaduna. This also includes industries and schools.
One of the major achievements of the School of Post Basic Ophthalmic Nursing is the full accreditation status awarded to the School by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria after the accreditation exercise It is the only school that has full accreditation status in the Federation
