The Legal Unit plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the interests of the Centre by providing a wide range of legal services and support. Working closely with the Centre’s legal retainers, the Unit is responsible for representing the Centre in court, ensuring robust legal defense and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Through this partnership, the Legal Unit diligently handles legal disputes, litigation, and other court-related matters to protect the Centre’s reputation and operational integrity.
In addition to its representational duties, the Unit performs an essential advisory role to the Centre’s Management. By offering expert legal counsel, the Legal Unit ensures that the Centre’s policies, decisions, and operations align with the law, mitigating risks and promoting sound governance. Recognizing the importance of its advisory function, the Legal Unit is a permanent member of the Statutory Committee on the School of Post Basic Ophthalmic Nursing, Academic Board, where it provides critical legal insights to guide academic and administrative decisions.
Another key responsibility of the Legal Unit is the preparation and review of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). The Unit ensures that all contractual agreements between the Centre and external organizations are clearly articulated, legally binding, and protect the interests of the Centre. This includes negotiating terms, drafting comprehensive documents, and ensuring compliance with legal standards in contract matters.
By providing legal representation, advisory support, and contract management, the Legal Unit ensures the Centre operates within a secure legal framework, fostering trust, transparency, and accountability in all its interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
