ABOUT CEH NEC

The Community Ophthalmology department of National Eye Centre, Kaduna is responsible for promoting eye health in surrounding communities of Kaduna State and in the Country at large. The department also offers a yearly five-week Community Eye Health (CEH) course.

In 2016, National Eye Centre Community Eye Care Programme (NECCECP) came into being as an intervention programme for the prevention of blindness in the country. NECCECP was established to reduce the burden of blindness from avoidable causes in the country. Igabi Local Government Area is being used as the pilot LGA. It is intended that in the future, the programme will scale to other LGAs in the State and other states in the Country. The programme is hinged on eight priority areas of the National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDP) namely: Leadership and Governance, Service Delivery, Human Resource for Health, Health Financing, Community Participation and Ownership, Partnerships for Health, National Health Management Information System and Research for Health. The following are the target diseases:

  • Cataract
  • Glaucoma
  • Uncorrected Refractive Error
  • Childhood Blindness
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
